Mother’s Day 2023: the stylish last-minute gifts that you still have time to buy

16 March 2023

It’s official. Mother’s Day is only a few days away and if you haven’t found the perfect gift yet, don’t despair. It’s not too late. You still have the chance to pull it out the bag with these last-minute options.

Nailing Mother’s Day gifting (aka the time of year to honour the queens in your life) is no mean feat. Maybe your loved one prefers your wardrobe to their own, (our fashion editor feels your pain), she’s a jewellery magpie, deserves a good pamper or would be super-excited by a swanky afternoon tea – I mean frankly, who wouldn’t?

More on gifts:

Whatever the requirements, Eliza has got you covered with our luxe-on-a-budget gift ideas. We’ve created a list of exactly the type of presents we know they’ll all love. At the time of writing, all of these are available in time for Sunday, either on free delivery, click and collect, or for you last-minuters, an evoucher to send to their inbox.

A gorgeous bouquet to make her smile free delivery on Mother’s Day

If you’ve been a bit slack on sorting your flowers (us too), M&S is your friend. There’s still time to order and you can choose to get them delivered on Sunday itself. There are loads of gorgeous bouquets, from pretty pastel roses to bright season arrangements made up of vibrant tulips, hyacinth and irises. We love this 100-stem daffodil and narcissus arrangement. They arrive in bud so they’ll last longer than a fully-open option. With all the flowers, you can add on extras like reed diffusers, room sprays and vases, or even a Percy Pig toy if she’s a fan of the sweets.

Makeup, skincare or fragrance she’ll love evoucher (from £25)

For when it’s too late to get a gift delivered (or you’re choosing for a picky recipient) an e-voucher is a great shout. We love Lookfantastic, where she’ll be able to pick from thousands of brands, spanning makeup, skincare, fragrance and more. Its suggestions for Mother’s Day include the likes of Clinique, Elemis, Espa, This Works and YSL. For makeup lovers, we happen to think a palette makes a fab gift as it’s the sort of thing she might not buy for herself but would really enjoy using. Nars is a go-to and this one is a peach: full of super-wearable shades that’ll work for all her 2023 occasions.

An instant spring-wardrobe update evoucher (£10-£100)

If you want to treat her to a new-season update, we think Seasalt Cornwall is a great bet. Get her one of its vouchers and she can pick from the latest collections. She’ll find the likes of throw-on breezy dresses and easy-to-wear tops with Cornish-inspired prints, alongside the likes of jumpsuits and dungarees. Our pick is this pretty checked top that can be dressed up or down. Like lots of Seasalt’s pieces, it comes in sizes 8-28.

Stylish sandals to elevate her warmer-weather looks evoucher (£5-£50)

We’re calling it: it’s nearly sandal season and Palmaira has some of the chicest styles we’ve seen. Get your mum a voucher so that she can choose a pair of these Menorcan-made shoes in time for warmer weather. They’re an elevated take on the island’s classic avarca sandals – we think she’d love this peep-toe pair in white leather that’ll look just as good with her favourite jeans as they will with her summer-holiday wardrobe.

Elegant, meaningful jewellery she’ll wear every day – evoucher (from £25)

For a jewellery lover, a Mejuri voucher will be very well received. There are plenty of options under £100, and all the pieces are super-wearable – its gold hoops are basically a wardrobe staple among the team. If we had to suggest one item for her to spend her voucher on, we’d opt for this this cool but subtle evil-eye design in 18k gold vermeil. It’s inspired by the symbol of protection (obvs we want our precious mums looked after!) and has an unusual beaded chain she can adjust.

The ultimate mother-daughter bonding afternoon tea – evoucher

Chosen by: Hannah Blake, Managing Director

For me, Mother’s Day is all about spending quality time with my mum, so I always try to source fun experience gifts. Afternoon tea at The Ivy will feel like such a treat and at £54 for the two of us, it’s a bargain. The Ivy restaurants are located all-round the UK so they should be accessible no matter where you live.

An at-home spa for some TLC – available free on click and collect or next or nominated-day delivery(£)

Chosen by: Laren Tayyip, Editorial Assistant

In the past, my mum and I have always enjoyed spending a spa day together, so what better way to treat her this year than bringing the spa home? This wellbeing diffuser pod from NEOM is perfect for creating relaxed zen vibes while doing activities around the house, be it a yoga session, watching a movie, or while having a glass of wine together.

There are loads of essential oils to choose from but my all-time favourite is Complete Bliss; it’s a special blend of Moroccan blush rose, fresh lime and black pepper and it’s super-calming – exactly what she needs.

Their next holiday inspo (with Greek flavour) – free next-day delivery (via Amazon Prime £)

Chosen by: Lucy Robson, Audience Development Lead

I live in a different city to my mum, so sadly I don’t get to see her as often as I would like to. Ever since I moved to London (over a decade ago now, eek), we’ve tried to rectify this by taking an annual jaunt together, whether that’s a weekend away in the UK, or for when we are feeling bougee, a week-long trip abroad.

Our best trips have always been to Greece, especially the Greek Islands – so this gorgeous Assouline coffee table book all about our fave place would be the most perfect and thoughtful gift to celebrate our holiday tradition!

A feel-good, refillable fragrance – available on free next-day click and collect or next-day or nominated-day delivery(£)

Chosen by: Tivina Elliott-James, Picture Editor

When it comes to Mother’s Day gifting, I’ve learnt it’s all about the little luxury items that my mum probably wouldn’t splash out on for herself. And please, whatever you do, don’t buy her a rice cooker… but that’s a story for another day.

When it comes to fragrance, I normally ask myself, is this something I would wear? Is this something my mum would help herself to when browsing through my bathroom cabinet? If yes, then we have a winner! This fragrance by Prada is beautifully floral with just the right hint of amber. It’s light and crisp, but with a deep new musk undertone giving it that grown-up element. An all-round gorgeous scent that is perfect for spring.
