While some people set New Year’s resolutions, I like to set my intentions for the year ahead with a new lipstick purchase. Whether you step out of your comfort zone with a bold red in a promise to take more risks, or opt for a functional but beautiful balmy lipstick to streamline your morning routine (and make it on time for work), 2024 has kicked off with a range of brand-new formulas to satiate your lipstick desires for the upcoming year.
Below, read about the three new launches we’ve tried on the team that we’re sure will be on everyone’s lips.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Icons, £27
Charlotte Tilbury’s lipsticks are loved the world over, so I was super excited to find out that she was extending the shade range in both her K.I.S.S.I.N.G and Matte Revolution lipstick formulas.
Not one to do things by half, we’ve been treated to 10 new shades in total, with five pink and five red Hollywood-inspired hues. Plus, all of the new lipstick shades have a corresponding Lip Cheat liner, with CT even bringing out a few new shades of these to ensure a perfect match.
The Hollywood Pinks are new to the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick line, and include a mix of frosted and satin finishes. Icon Baby was my favourite of the new shades as it gave me a slightly subtler, more nude lip than Pillow Talk, which I’ve always found to be too pink on me. Our Fashion and Beauty Director Krissy picked out 90s Pink, a warm rose shade that she fell in love with instantly on application.
Meanwhile, Matte Revolution now includes a new addition of five showstopping reds in a soft matte finish, from the bright cherry shade Cinematic Red, to the muted, warm hue Mark Of A Kiss. What’s more, you can get matched to your perfect shade without having to leave your sofa by using the new Lipstick Shade Finder on the Charlotte Tilbury app.
Chanel Rouge Coco Baume, £34
In their first-ever Les Beiges Winter Glow collection, Chanel has curated a beautiful edit of makeup that’s perfect for achieving the coveted ‘après ski flush’. For the collection, Chanel has come out with three brand new shades of it’s much-loved Rouge Coco Baume: Cocoon, a deep fleshy rose, Keep Cool, an iced mauve brown, and Chilling Pink, a fresh crystal pink.
The Coco Baume formula is – like the name suggests – a silky, tinted lip balm that packs a strong pigment as well as a hit of hydration that keeps your lips plump and moisturised throughout the day.
Rimmel London Lasting Mega Matte Liquid Lipstick, £7.99
For a lipstick you can rely on to see you through the day (and one that doesn’t break the bank), Rimmel’s new liquid matte formula delivers up to 16 hours comfortable wear with conditioning squalane and coconut oil, so there’ll be no flaking or caking once applied.
The finish is a soft matte with a cushiony texture, so your lips won’t be left feeling dry, with a slanted doe-foot for precise application. These liquid lipsticks currently come in 15 shades, with a range of pinks, nudes, reds and purples to suit all skin tones.
Prada Monochrome Hyper Matte Lipstick, £37
If you adore Prada but can’t afford a Cleo bag, then look to the fashion house’s new makeup brand. Less than a year old, Prada Beauty contains innovative formulas housed in luxurious and intricately detailed casings which mirror the classic designs of the brand. Even the lipstick bullet itself has been carefully designed to mimic the texture of Prada’s iconic Saffiano leather. When it comes to high-end makeup, it doesn’t get much more luxe than that.
The latest launch brings two new shades to its Hyper Matte Lipstick range: Mahogany, a deep, sensual burgundy shade, and Dragon, a soft orange-rust hue.
Not only do Prada’s lipsticks embody luxury from the outside, but they push the boundaries of generic matte formulas too. The finish is described as ‘hyper matte’, and while you might be tempted to read this as ‘hyper drying’, that’s not the case. These innovative lipsticks deliver a bold pigment that fuses with the lips immediately upon application, with a formula that’s infused with jojoba oil, bifidus extract, and Micro-Fit™ Technology to give a super long-wear finish while feeling almost undetectable.
