In what might qualify as the most unexpected but exciting piece of beauty news to come out of 2022 so far, Bourjois has made its return to our high street, and along with it, the cult makeup products that we’ve oh-so-missed.
Since Bourjois was discontinued in the UK in 2019 (or what seems like a lifetime ago), fans of the brand have had to look elsewhere for their affordable beauty dupes. If you never got a piece of the Bourjois action, let me catch you up on what you’ve been missing.
What is Bourjois?
An iconic French beauty brand, Bourjois’ portfolio of products included some of the most sought-after makeup of the 00s, from its Healthy Skin Tint Foundation (returning in August) to the Bourjois Little Round Blush Pot, £8.99, Superdrug.
Its popularity came down to the brands’ formulations, which offered high end quality at high street prices, and was no doubt fuelled further by the rumour that Bourjois’ products were made in the same factory as Chanel.
The Parisian-inspired aesthetic was also a major pull for those of us looking to inject a little French-girl chic into our makeup bags, with its classic branding and timeless packaging, which didn’t break the bank but still looked and felt luxury.
Where can I buy Bourjois in the UK?
At the moment, the brand is stocked exclusively with Superdrug, with everything currently on sale priced at £12 or less. Time to stock up!
Whether you’re an OG fan or dipping your toe into the brand for the first time, the Eliza beauty team has had the opportunity to play around with some much-loved returning makeup as well as brand new additions not available in the UK before. And because we’re all about sharing the best of the best, these are the products we’re most excited about…
Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick
The red lip has become as much an icon of French culture as the Eiffel Tower or a beret, so it makes sense that Bourjois would have some of the best affordable red lipsticks out there. Rouge Velvet delivers a high-pigment swipe of colour with a soft matte finish that feels comfortable on the lips, but the timeless hues of red are what really secures this as one of Bourjois’ best products. If you’re in search of a sensuous Parisian lip, Berry Formidable is the perfect deep-crimson.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Anti-Fatigue Concealer
For those that love the Healthy Mix Foundation but can’t wait until August, try Bourjois’ concealer, which has the same Healthy Mix formula for a your-skin-but-better finish. If you want to take the French approach to makeup further still, using concealer to spot-conceal and going without foundation lends an effortless approach to your makeup, letting your natural skin show through while also giving coverage where necessary (handy after a night out featuring too much vino).
Bourjois Little Round Pot Blusher
One of Bourjois’ classic cult products, this small but mighty blusher pot comes in five shades for the most natural flush. Use the pocket-sized brush that comes with the blusher to sweep on the silky powder for a healthy-looking glow.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet Ink Liquid Lipstick
Yes there are two lipsticks in this round-up and that’s because it was impossible to choose between them. Not only does the packaging of this liquid lipstick look worthy of any Instagram flatlay, but the shade range and longevity rival high-end competitors. Whether you prefer rich raspberry hues or tonal nudes, you can be sure that this liquid lipstick won’t disappear after your first coffee and croissant.
Bourjois Twist Up The Volume Mascara
High street mascaras are, in my opinion, some of the best out there, and that’s a hill I’ll die on. Luckily, Bourjois is driving that point all the way home with its Twist Up The Volume Mascara, a newcomer to the Bourjois range in the UK. Gone are the days of hoarding a different mascara for each lash look; this multi-hyphenate features a twist-brush which allows you to change between lengthening and volumising to achieve your perfect lashes with just one wand.
