This year, for the very first time, I’m going to Glastonbury! Amid my excitement around what to pack and what to wear, I began to reminisce on my favourite looks from years gone by.
Even though I can remember loads of iconic Glastonbury looks, when it came to Googling them, I realised they were more fashion-led. Makeup was really pared back in the glory days of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung waltzing around the field in bohemian whimsy. It makes sense, I suppose, given that this is the most carefree and relaxed place in the world.
To satisfy my need for a glam mood board, I took to iconic performers for some inspo that was tailored to my ‘more is more’ appetite…
Lizzo’s Glastonbury look
The first person I Googled was Lizzo, because we can always rely on her to have fun with her makeup. I love this lilac look, and it’s going to be really easy to achieve if you want to get ready quickly.
There aren’t a million steps; one bold wash of colour all over the lids and then some shimmer is all it takes.
Try the Mini Cream Eyeshadow Palette, £6.99, Superdrug, to replicate this kind of look. There’s a little touch of glitter on Lizzo’s lids to add a bit of extra dimension to this shadow. Colourpop has created these beautiful multi-chrome shadows, which again, are really easy to apply and they’re not messy like glitter.
Haim’s Glastonbury look
One of my favourite bands is Haim, and they always wear fresh, barely-there makeup. Ironically at Glastonbury when everyone’s going barely-there, they’ve really upped the makeup!
For bold lip like Este’s, the new Maybelline Superstay Vinyl Inks, £11.99, Boots, are fantastic and they genuinely don’t move. A quick sweep of this in the morning and you’re all set with minimal maintenance through the day.
Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey’s Glastonbury look
Looking at Miley and Lana, there’s a sort of bohemian magic to these 60s smoky eyes.
You’ll find everything you need to recreate them in the new Bare Nudes Smoky Nude Palette, £42, Bobbi Brown, (which makes perfect sense given that the brand really is the go-to for those classic, smoky neutrals).
This look will work beautifully with any lip colour, too! For intricate liner details, the Precision Eyeliner Pencil, £18, Sephora, is absolutely tiny and can create small details or elegant flicks.
Beyoncé’s Glastonbury look
Beyoncé is keeping things super neutral and golden. This kind of classic makeup is going to make you feel really beautiful, perfect for taking lots of photos and capturing memories. If you stick to the neutral goldens you know they aren’t going to detract from anything bright and bold about your clothing.
For something similar, look no further than NARS’ Laguna collection. You’ll see these effortless palettes for copper shimmer or pressed sparkle, easy to apply with a ring finger and no mirror while you pull yourself together in your tent.
Thinking of hygiene, I think sprays are going to come in really handy for you in terms of your skincare and makeup. Urban Decay’s bestselling setting spray is really the authority in setting your face and locking your makeup in place for the day. The newer Vitamin C version (which adds glow to the skin) now comes in travel size.
In addition, one of the best products I’ve tried this summer is the Preen Screen SPF Spray, £15 for travel size, Ultra Violette. This may be my favourite SPF for layering over makeup that I’ve found yet! It’s completely sheer and fits easily into your handbag.
It totally makes sense that a laidback getaway like Glastonbury is also home to a complete makeup and beauty switch off. But, for me, indulging in my makeup and glitter is going to be part of the switch off, and more importantly part of the fun! Stay tuned, I’ll be back next time to tell you exactly what I’m packing and why…
