Eliza Approved spotlights those hero products worth the spend. Whether it’s classic favourites or what’s landed on our beauty editor’s desk this week, you can put your trust in our recommendations.
As a beauty editor, perfecting my base has been my number one makeup pursuit over the past ten years. It’s a big shout, but one that holds up; you see, I’m obsessed with finding the right combination of products that balance ample coverage with a super dewy, healthy-looking glow that has a glass finish. I believe once I have found this, the rest of my makeup doesn’t need to try very hard at all.
And one product that’s now never going to leave my ride-or-die line-up? The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, ofc.
This is a product I can’t – and probably never will – stop re-acquiring. And I’m not the only one who enjoys it; celebrities such as Emma Roberts, Mandy Moore Adele and Lizzo have been known to wear and love it.
I do often hear my many makeup-obsessed friends share their confusion about just how to use it however, so thought I’d give a quick run-down on everything you need to know so you, too, can enjoy that enviable glow.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter: my verdict
- Price: RRP £39
- Areas to apply: All over, plus at high points of the face to highlight
- Benefits: Glow-boosting, a light layer of coverage, skin blurring
- Colours: 12 shades
What is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter?
Let’s start with the basics: what exactly is this beloved product that sells once every two minutes?!
Flawless Filter is marketed as an illuminating formula that’s inspired by Hollywood lights and social media filters. It is a skin perfecter that can be used in several ways (more on that below), and contains hydrating ingredients such as squalane and glycerin.
The product – which feels nourishing yet featherlight on the skin – comes in a sizeable glass tube, and the applicator is a large, soft doe’s foot.
Does Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter come in a wide range of shades?
It comes in 12 shades, which could be improved to account for a wider, more diverse range of skin tones.
As the product is fairly sheer however, you may find one of them works well for you as you blend. It’s best to do some test swatches first if you’re unsure.
Is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter a foundation? How many ways can you use it?
This is a classic 3-in-1 beauty buy that sort of helps to justify the price tag. £39 is definitely an investment, but once you discover all the ways it can be used, you’ll likely be willing to fork out.
The three main ways you can use the product are as follows:
- As a primer, applied before tinted moisturiser or foundation
- As a lightweight skin tint, in place of an alternative base
- As a highlighter, at the tops of cheekbones, on the brow bone and at the cupid’s bow
How does a beauty editor use Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter?
My favourite way to get the most out of it is as a primer, but I apply it in a specific way which I actually first discovered on TikTok.
I begin with a light layer of a clear, hydrating primer to prep my skin after SPF/moisturiser, before dabbing on Flawless Filter across my face. I then take a damp beauty sponge with my chosen foundation or tinted moisturiser, and blend the two in together for a gorgeously radiant finish.
This is the best way I’ve found to use it, and truthfully I’m not sure my skin has ever looked healthier.
I’d 100% recommend Flawless Filter. As one of my favourite Charlotte Tilbury products (and I am the *biggest* Tilbury stan), I think I would simply give up if it ever were to be discontinued. CT big bosses, you have been warned…
