Eliza Approved spotlights those hero products worth the spend. Whether it’s classic favourites or what’s landed on our beauty editor’s desk this week, you can put your trust in our recommendations.
Anybody who knows me will be fully aware that I have an affinity for any product that creates an eye-catching glow. I often say I like to be so glowy, my skin looks almost look wet – and while this is of course an exaggeration, it’s really not that far off.
As a beauty editor, I can’t think of a single compliment I would rather receive (physically) than one about my skin looking flawless. And it’s something I’ve heard more than ever before, since using this product. Music to my ears.
I sort of discovered the Ciaté Skin Tint by accident. I’ll be totally honest with you: Ciaté is a brand I most commonly associate with nails, even to this day. But my GOD, the brand has some incredible makeup offerings that really stand up to makeup heavyweights from more established brands.
While I’ve also learnt to love the brand’s liquid blushers and bronzers, it’s their lightweight-yet-buildable foundation that is the star of the show.
Why the product really impresses me is part in thanks to its texture. As somebody with combination skin prone to oiliness and shine, finding a base that will promote radiance while staying put all day long seems like my own personal beauty Everest – and yet Ciaté has achieved it, comfortably so.
While the finish boosts luminosity, the texture of the product isn’t too wet or runny, meaning it won’t slide off the face. It has an almost gel-like feel that clings onto skin in the best way, and really lasts. It’s described as having a ‘cushion-like balmy formula,’ which I think sums it up beautifully.
Next up is the finish and coverage. As mentioned, it’s pretty lightweight (sitting between a tinted moisturiser and foundation), but can be built up gradually, and certainly offers more than most BB or CC creams I have personally tried.
Its ‘ultra-dewy, glass-like’ finish is summer skin epitomised; you know, that beautifully natural, healthy complexion that makes you look as though you’ve been on a 10-day spa break in the Mediterranean.
I use the product alone at the weekend, when my skin is much better rested (damn you, weird nocturnal week-night sleep schedule) but for days in the office when I need a little extra *help,* it plays nicely when mixed with other slightly harder-working foundations.
As for application, I have tried this with all sorts of tools. My humble opinion is that it best gets on with a damp sponge, but for real lazy or rushed moments (such as after a spin class, in my case), it can go on just as easily with fingers. It really is a versatile base that can be used in all circumstances.
I choose not to powder all over when I’m wearing this in order to embrace the beautiful glow it provides – however, a little pinpoint powdering across the T-zone can help its longevity.
Ciaté Dewy Skin Glass Glow Tint: the need-to-knows
- Price: RRP £26, currently £13
- Key ingredients: vitamin C, hyaluronic acid
- Benefits: Boosts glow, buildable coverage, lightweight texture
- Shade range: 10 shades
In terms of its ingredients, there is plenty to get excited about, too. As well as brightening vitamin C, the formula also contains hydrating hero hyaluronic acid, and anti-oxidising yuzu and dragon fruit. It therefore fits nicely into the makeup-skincare hybrid category we are seeing so much of lately.
Price-wise, the Skin Tint is usually £26, which IMO is pretty purse-friendly for a really incredible base that will last you a good couple of months. But recently, the brand has been offering the product half price at an even more budget-friendly £13 – so it really is the time to stock up.
If there was one criticism I could give of this beautiful base, it has to be the shade range; there are unfortunately only 10 options. In BB/CC cream territory, this would be considered adequate, as many lighter bases promise to suit a range of skin tones thanks to their sheer, blendable texture.
However, in the world of foundations, 10 shades just does not cut it – particularly when there are so few options for those with darker skin tones.
For this reason, I implore the brand to extend the range so everybody can enjoy its beauty – then it really would be perfect!
