Glossier has just about covered every base: it’s nailed no-makeup makeup, perfected healthy, dewy skin, and even has that one perfect fragrance totally down. And the brand really has ticked off every box now with its latest launch: the Glossier Deodorant.
The ‘recyclable, reusable and refillable’ £18 product is vegan and cruelty-free, and has been formulated with superfruit elderberry extract and coconut oil to keep underarms super soft and supple. Its ingredients list also feature potato starch to absorb moisture, and magnesium hydroxide, which acts as a pH adjuster and prevents sweat stains.
But is it any good?
Does the Glossier Deodorant work?
I’ve got good news for you: I put the new product to the ultimate test by applying it right before a spin class. In other words, I wanted to know if it would hold its own when up against the sweatiest cardio you could do. And let me tell you, I’m a seriously sweaty gal. My arch nemesis would be the one who goes “Oh, I actually just really don’t sweat that much”. *Insert unamused emoji face here*
Spin classes – as I’m sure you’re aware – count as intense cardio. It’s 45-90 minutes of pure sweat, and as a regular rider, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try Glossier’s deo. So how did it go?
I have to admit that during class, I noticed I had stayed pretty dry under the arms, and I even caught a whiff of the lovely scent (I had the Sandstone one; more about that below) several times throughout the 45 minutes.
As I finished my class and completed some stretches, I slyly attempted to give myself a sniff, and noticed I didn’t smell of sweat and could still smell the beautiful fragrance quite strongly.
After an hour or so that included a seriously frustrating (and undoubtedly even more sweaty) tyre puncture incident on my own bike as I travelled home, I had another sniff. I was not as fresh as before, but I was definitely impressed at how much the Glossier product had prevented a serious odour from developing. As a natural deodorant free from aluminium, that’s no mean feat.
I also like the texture of this product: I think natural options like Necessaire’s are great formula-wise, but as roll-ons they’re very wet to apply and take a few minutes to dry. This can be a huge pain, especially in the colder months when you don’t fancy standing topless in your bathroom at 7am, wafting at your underarms. Glossier’s is more of a stick formula, so it applies as a sort of dry cream.
On the whole I was pretty impressed, and am going to continue wearing it to see how it comes up against a long day working, for example (watch this space).
Is the Glossier Deodorant sustainable?
The brand’s especially proud of its latest development because of its sustainability credentials.
The product comes with a keep-forever encasing, which is then used in conjunction with one of the refills. When refills are empty, they can be recycled and a new one purchased.
What scents does the Glossier Deodorant come in?
Glossier Deodorant comes in four scent options, all of which can be popped into the core case (as explained above).
They have different coloured ‘bands’ to represent their fragrance, which are:
- Sandstone: The brand’s newest scent, created by the fragrance house that made Glossier You. It is inspired by ‘where the sea and mountains meet,’ and is very fresh and unassuming.
- Glossier You: Its bestselling scent with notes of pink pepper, iris, ambrox and ambrette. Wear it with the perfume for double the power.
- Orange Blossom Neroli: The smell of Glossier’s Body Hero collection, this is a dream for neroli fans.
- Unscented: If you prefer to keep it simple or want your chosen perfume to shine, opt for this instead.
