I love being among the first to try and test new curly hair products, but when there are several new launches every month, it can be difficult to keep up and it gets slightly overwhelming.
As someone who only washes their hair once a week, it’s impossible to try every ‘brand new’ product sent in my direction – what’s a girl to do, eh?
Despite this, over the past three months I have stumbled across a few gems that I think are worth considering a purchase on during your next shopping spree – and I couldn’t wait to share (no gatekeeping over here).
The best new curly hair launches of 2023 so far
Below, find my recommendations for the best new launches to level up your curls.
Innersense I Create Definition Styling Foam, £26
It’s no secret that I’m a massive Innersense fan and its new styling foam is another product to write home (or in a column), about. It has a light-weight formula that simultaneously defines and strengthens your hair. I used it as the styler for my most recent wash and go and my hair has lasted a full ten days.
So, if humidity is always being a hater and you’re on the quest for longer lasting hairstyles, the I Create Definition Styling Foam would be a perfect choice for you.
Mark Hill Miracle Curl Conditioner, £8.99
Mark Hill recently launched its Miracle Curl range with advanced curl bond technology.
For me, the Miracle Curl Super-Hydrating Conditioner, £8.99, Boots, is the stand-out product of the range. The sweet-smelling formula provides lightweight hydration and moisture while adding shine to your strands.
It is a silicone-free formula, which was a genuine shock to me as my brush glided through my hair with ease. I kid you not, my tangles melted away in seconds and a little goes a very long way, so you’re sure to get your money’s worth (making its affordability even more appealing).
Amika Water Sign Hydrating Hair Oil, £31
Although it has been around for a while, Amika is a completely new brand to me.
I have been testing out its newly launched hydration range and the Water Sign Hydrating Hair Oil, £31, SpaceNK, is definitely a product to rave about. It’s the perfect product for those days when your hair needs a boost of moisture or a bit of extra protection from heat and breakage.
The ingredients include squalene and hyaluronic acid to hydrate your hair and prevent further moisture loss.
If you love a light-weight oil, enjoy smelling like summer and are a sucker for pretty packaging, this is the product for you!
Umberto Giannini’s Thirsty Curls range
My next two finds go hand-in-hand, in that I wouldn’t recommend one without the other.
Both are from Umberto Giannini’s new Thirsty Curls range.
The Dehydration SOS Curl Treatment Mask, £9.95, Boots, is the first of the pairing. It is a pre-shampoo treatment that can be left on for anything between ten minutes and overnight.
I’m not usually a huge fan of pre-shampoo treatments because I rarely think they are worth the extra hassle and often just end up sitting on top of my hair rather than actually treating my strands from the inside out, but this one is definitely an exception.
It is moisturising, easily absorbs into my strands and is not heavy at all.
Following up with the Thirsty Curls Moisture Surge Curl Hydrating Shampoo, £9.25, Boots, which is the perfect way to start a wash day.
It glides through my strands like silk to the point where I think I could probably detangle with it.
The combination of using the treatment mask and the shampoo provides an incredible amount of hydration and definition. My hair has never looked so defined after just a treatment and a shampoo, so if you love a curl-enhancing product, you do not want to miss out on this duo.
We are only a quarter of the way through the year, and it is visible to me that curly hair brands have started to move away from the moisture-obsessed craze and have focused more on hydration and definition, which I, for one, am really appreciating. Let’s see where we’ll be in another three months!
