It’s all very well hearing advice from makeup artists, and I love sharing pro tips in my column each fortnight. But sometimes it’s quite nice to hear about the simple things that we throw on our face five minutes before we leave the house, isn’t it?
Having just come back from two weeks away, I packed a capsule makeup bag and realised that lots of my quick go-tos came from Nudestix. My trip fell at the same time as Sofia Richie Grainge’s wedding (I know Laura Capon has already told you all about that), and so ensued an explosion of interest in the brand.
A family-run brand with an interesting story, mother of the ship Jenny Frankel started her 20+ year career in beauty as a chemical engineer. After years of formulating products for major beauty brands, she created her own baby in Nudestix with her daughters Taylor, CMO (who you’ll know well from the brand’s TikTok page) and Ally. Ally has recently graduated with her med degree, so brings all of her expertise into the brand as their Chief Skincare Advisor.
Nudestix is also known for capsule collections with well-known figures such as Sofia and Hilary Duff, but something you might not know is that these collaborators are also investors who come to work with the brand because they truly love it!
If you’re new to the brand, the place to begin is with the creamy complexion sticks. More on those below…
Blusher shades
The blush sticks are my favourite products from Nudestix. You’ve probably already seen these on your FYP because several shades have gone viral, and interestingly they’re the super-bright shades like the orange-red Picante and the deep plum Moodie Blu. What’s unique about the blushers is that although they’re all in a cream formula, most of them have a matte finish.
Contour sticks
I’m not even a contour person and yet I love these. These sticks are cooler in undertone, designed to mimic the natural shadow on your face and sculpt the skin. Think uber-natural contour that is barely detectable but gives you a fresh, lifted look.
Bronze sticks
One of Sofia’s favourites is indeed one of my own! Our shared shade is Bondi Bae, but there are a selection of colours to suit all complexions. All of these come with a tiny brush at the end for ease of application, especially great if you’re on the go.
Another Nudestix product I’ve stockpiled over the years is the Magnetic Eye Colour. While it’s a creamy stick, much like those you could find from many brands, for me these blend more easily and last for longer. Something that’s quite difficult to land well is a matte eye crayon in a creamy formula, but Nudestix do these beautifully.
In theory, you could create an entire face at Nudestix. There are other things from the brand that I think are really well-formulated but I don’t gravitate to quite as much. The whole ethos of Nudestix is to celebrate no-makeup makeup, and as such the likes of their Tinted Cover Foundation is lovely and soft but not quite enough coverage for my rosacea-prone skin.
The Lash Lengthening mascara is fantastic for sensitive eyes but doesn’t quite give me the volume I’m looking for. The brand also has a full range of skincare (soon to expand into body care), all priced well with high-performing formulations. Most notably, the Nudestix mineral SPF30 is fantastic and comes in several tints to ensure you are left with absolutely no tell-tale white cast.
I think Nudestix really comes into its own when using the creamy sticks to add vibrancy to your complexion; they layer well with practically everything else in my makeup bag and are super-easy to travel with. I know people say that a lot, but Nudestix is genuinely one of those brands that I will take in my bag on a night out for top-ups, and the portable design allows me to travel light if I’m going away.
In two weeks I went to New Jersey, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and I can tell you that my creamy sticks lasted and photographed beautifully in every single climate from rain to humidity.
Speaking of my trip, in my next column I’m going to tell you exactly what I packed and used. Trust me, I love a full glam look, and I was able to achieve it in minutes with barely any steps.
Believe the hype – Nudestix is a brand that I trust, have repurchased for years, and its products sit beautifully on all skin types, tones and ages. All hail our princess bride Sofia for giving them the TikTok love that they truly deserve!
