Be it the facial steamer used by Victoria Beckham or a hair oil Scarlett Johansson can’t live without, ‘Celebrity Approved’ details the most beloved celebrity beauty products and how they use them.
One of the questions I get asked the most as a beauty journalist is; ‘do brow serums really work?’
Why? Well firstly, there are legions of people walking around who still feel scarred by their experiences in the tweezer-happy days of the ‘90s.
Skinny brows were a thing for a hot minute, but they lasted even less time than Geri did in the Spice Girls. Sadly though, the effects of over-plucking were a little longer lasting…
Secondly, full, bushy brows look great and require minimal maintenance. Cara Delevingne made us want them, and Glossier helped us get the effect with the cult brow gel Boy Brow. But really, everyone wants a set of healthy brows that are actually all our own.
Do eyebrow serums work?
To answer the question then, in short, is yes. With consistent use and the right brow serum, you can stimulate hair growth in areas that are lacking and even enhance the thickness of your existing brow hairs. ‘
Which is the best brow serum for growth?
There’s one brow-boosting serum that seems to beat them all in the race for hair growth: RevitaBrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner, £89, CultBeauty. Fans of the conditioning product say that it’s so good it can even make Harry Styles fall in love with you.
Ok, that is majorly paraphrasing one fan. However, said fan happens to be actress and director (and Harry’s girlfriend) Olivia Wilde. She credits Revitabrow as being the best eyebrow growth serum in the world and says that it helped her to grow her eyebrows back ‘after 15 years of baldness’. Or, to quote her directly, “Revitabrow f–king works”.
Revitabrow ‘saved’ Oliva Wilde’s brows, but how does it work?
The beauty industry makes a lot of claims but the wonder that is Revitabrow does seem to be steeped in science rather than marketing magic. Essentially, the serum works because of its peptide-rich formula. You may have last heard of peptides in school, but they are used a lot in skincare and haircare.
‘Amino acids are the building blocks of life,’ is literally the only sentence I remember from GCSE science. But now I’m paying more attention, because peptides are strings of tiny amino acids that eventually form proteins. Our hair (including our eyebrows) is largely made up of proteins. Are you still with me at the back?
All you need to know is that when peptides are used in haircare, or in this case brow care, they help to do several things, including promoting better hair growth and even increasing the actual size of individual hairs. For your brows this means sparse patches could be filled in and naturally thin brows can be thickened. Maybe it is magic after all.
As well as peptides, Revitabrow contains lipids, biotin and panthenol – a string of conditioning and hair strengthening ingredients that can help your brows become healthier, thicker and shinier.
Will Revitabrow Eyebrow Serum give me fuller brows overnight?
It’s not a magic wand! Patience is key when it comes to bringing brows back from the brink. Revitabrow, like other brow serums, needs to be applied daily for at least three months before you’ll see noticeable results.
It is mega-easy to use, though. Just swipe a few strokes of the serum onto each brow before you apply your makeup or before you go to bed, and let it dry. Then you’re good to go and (hopefully) watch your brows grow.
The best eyebrow serums in 2022
Coming in at just under £100, Olivia Wilde’s favourite eyebrow growth serum certainly isn’t cheap. There are several cheaper options available though, and over time they can help to keep your brows in tip top condition and even increase the density of your brows.
Rapidbrow Eyebrow Enhancing Serum
Rapidbrow is an eyebrow-enhancing serum that has gained 2,500 five star reviews on Amazon, with fans calling the regrowth they see after dedicated use ‘incredible’.
It contains similar brow-building ingredients to Revitabrow, with peptides, biotin and keratin all working hard to repopulate patchy brows in the 60 day period this claims to work in. According to reviewers, an added bonus is that it can transfer onto lashes and also give them a little density boost.
BBB London Nourishing Brow Oil
BBB Brow is an all-natural oil that adds a lovely, healthy shine to brows and claims to encourage growth in sparse areas. It differs from Rapidbrow and Revitabrow in that this stuff uses essential oils including almond, lavender and sandalwood to look after your brows as well as encourage brow growth.
I would say this is definitely more of a conditioning treatment than a magical regrowth potion, but your brows will certainly look glossy and healthy (and smell great) after you’ve used this overnight hit.
