Perhaps you’ve already bagged an essential trench coat for spring, but there’s another classic light layer to covet this season. You’ll find one hanging in every French It girl’s wardrobe, they’re effortlessly smart and can be worn any time of year – but right now they come in a fabulously refreshing colour palette.
They can be styled for work, events and even the weekend too. I’m talking about the timeless, versatile staple that is a bouclé jacket. Keep scrolling to find out where to get yours!
The best styles of bouclé jackets + how to wear them
Cropped
Bouclé jackets, jeans and ballet pumps is a failsafe fashion formula to master that can be worn time and time again. This look works best with a cropped, tailored style that will add a sophisticated edge to even your most worn denim.
Top of my list is Lipsy’s ecru iteration with a black trim and gold buttons. I would wear this one with black straight legs – I recommend Weekday’s high waist Rowe style – and some sleek leather bow pumps.
For the ultimate classic navy jacket, look no further than Zara’s textured design, it will easily become a hard-working piece in any wardrobe. Plus, the flap pockets and the hook and eye closures make this style look far more expensive than it is.
What to wear with cropped boucle styles:
Blazers
This wide lapelled silhouette with shoulder pads is perfect if you have an hourglass figure or a fuller bust. Add one to your workwear wardrobe. Matalan’s Kelly green double breasted version is sublime. Throw it over a white shirt and these minimalist trousers from Zara for a winning combination.
Co-ord bouclé jackets are another simple way to appear put together and Vero Moda’s black tailored jacket with a matching mini skirt is a total bargain buy. Pair the top half of this co-ord with any pair of formal black trousers for yet another failsafe outfit – I rate Pull & Bear’s seam detail pair.
H&M’s minimalist cream take is another must-have neutral: Go matchy-matchy with some cream straight legs or try some light beige cigarette pants if the full look feels too much.
What to wear with boucle blazers:
Longline blazer
The elongated, waistless cut makes this a great occasion coat. If you have the cash to splash, I would invest in Mint Velvet’s cream style with an elegant funnel neck and the ultimate black contrast trim. Amp it up by wearing it with leather pants, an ivory ribbed strapless top and some block heeled mules.
This pistachio green bouclé design is also a hot ticket, with handy chest pockets and a round neckline – plus it’s a fraction of the price. Style it with pale blue jeans and ME+EM’s Forever tee, aptly named for it’s fantastic quality, for a boozy weekend brunch.
I also love this white knee-skimming iteration from Coast – layer it over your next wedding guest dress or jumpsuit.

Statement
If you want a statement rather than a staple, opt for bold colourways, loud patterns, embellishments and sharp cuts. River Island’s electric blue dogtooth blazer is a certified look-at-me buy.
For a colour pop of neon pink, look no further than this woven trim, collared design from Coast – complete with glitzy diamante buttons.
The Belle sequinned black jacket with pearl buttons from Sister Jane is also ideal for an extravagant night out. Or the bow embellished Apollo design is just as gorgeous – and it’s less than half the price.
Pair any of the above bouclé jackets with a slick of red lipstick and you’ll be good to go.
