Calling all my big-boobed ladies – it’s time to get rid of those ill-fitting bras you bought because they were pretty but weren’t *actually* in your size, or that bra that may fit well but is the literal definition of an over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder – it’s giving Miss Trunchbull if she were a bra.
Before you ask, yes, as a 34E gal, I am very much guilty of owning both these kinds of bras – aren’t we all? Being a larger busted woman, we’ve all experienced the dreaded ‘quad boob’, seen our smaller boobed friends wearing the most beautiful, dainty bras and felt green with envy, or then squeezed our boobs into too small bras bringing them to the brink of suffocation – it’s all just a rite of passage for us.
I pretty much came out the womb with big boobs and I was the first out of all my friends to start wearing a bra. It was a time of absolute sheer embarrassment for me and there was no way of flying under the radar, especially when all my friends had their enviably flat chests, and I was there with a chest to rival Dolly Parton’s (OK, this is a slight exaggeration, but that’s how it felt). I still have the most vivid, traumatic memory of one of the boys in my class walking past and pulling the back of my bra strap, and at that moment my 10-year-old self would’ve been happy to simply sink into the classroom floor.
But our days of being marginalised and cursing the boob gods are no more! Every year, new, fabulous brands pop up that understand that big-boobed women want to look and feel gorgeous in bras for bigger busts too. And there are of course the few trusty brands that have always had our (slightly achy) backs – M&S I’m talking about you! In the past couple of years, I’ve gone from being a strictly-wearing-only-wired-with-light-padding-bras kind of girl to a jersey/strapless/wireless/whatever-the-hell-kind-of-bra-I-fancy-wearing-with-no-restrictions kind of girl, and I’ve collated the absolute best places for you to buy all of these bras for bigger busts so you can join me on this ever so liberating journey.
Where should I buy bras if I have bigger boobs?
Best bras for every day
When it comes to every day bras for bigger busts, people often choose function over fashion. Especially when you’re limited on choice, it can be demoralising to spend hours searching for something that you’re not sure even exists. But fear not, I’ve taken one for the team and done the searching for you.
The below bras will give you all the support your boobs need during your day-to-day activities whilst keeping them looking and feeling pretty. The Charnos Flamenco Full Cup Bra from Pour Moi is an absolute treat with its luxe stretchy lace, and the Boux Avenue Lounge Mesh Balconette Bra is probably my most worn bra in the history of bras due it being like a soft, supportive (slightly sexy) hug for my boobs – if I die tomorrow, please bury me in it.
Best pretty bras for bigger busts
There is nothing better than putting beautiful underwear on and feeling so great that you give off main character energy for the rest of the day. After years of being forced to wear bras that were reminiscent of the ones our great grandmothers wore (you know the ones I mean, those giant lacy styles wore since they were the only ones that came in sizes larger than a C cup), it’s now our time to shine.
Whether it’s the Boux Avenue Harriet Balconette Bra which makes me feel like I’m cosplaying as Kate Sharma getting ready to seduce Anthony Bridgerton (whilst my boobs feel like they’re in silky heaven), or the purple lacey Ann Summers Serenity Bra that’s the epitome of beauty and comfort rolled into one – what more could a girl want?!
Best sports bras for bigger busts
We all remember those dreaded PE lessons that left us traumatised? The ones where you were forced to do a 100m sprint and were waiting on the start line knowing full well that the minute you set off there would be 99.9% chance that your boobs would have a mind of their own and potentially knock you out. But it’s time to erase those memories and replace them with new, fond sporting memories where your boobs are held firmly in place by a high-quality sports bra that looks good enough to show off at the same time. Best comfortable bras
After years of steering clear of non-wired and non-padded jersey bras after being indoctrinated with the idea that they’re for the small boob crew only, I recently rebelled and bring good news. I’m officially a bralette convert now and will preach about them to anyone who will listen. The Nudea Scoop Neck Bralette is a thing of heaven, I no longer have the urge to take my bra off at the end of the day as it just feels like a second skin – my boobs have never been happier. Our fashion editor Krissy also raves about the Skims Naked Scoop bra.
Best multiway and strapless bras for bigger busts
It’s time to stop depriving yourself of wearing outfits that require you to wear anything other than a regular bra. For years I steered clear of any tops or dresses that looked even remotely obscure for fear of having a nipple to the wind moment if I went braless. I’d rather have walked on hot coals than wear a strapless bra and spend my whole evening pulling it up whilst it slowly slid down to my belly button ending up as a belt. However, one day I decided enough was enough and purchased an M&S multiway bra and have never looked back. Be sure to get measured first for the best fit.
