Hands up if you’ve been tempted to buy some cowboy boots over the past year? They’ve been EVERYWHERE so I applaud your willpower if you’ve managed to resist up until now.
Personally, I’d argue cowboy boots have always been a classic shoe choice, but if you were hesitant to invest last year and saw them as a trend, you’ll be reassured that these statement boots are still trending now and will always be useful boots to have in your spring wardrobe.
You have your knee-high boots, Chelsea boots, biker boots, hiker boots, heeled ankle boots, platform boots, stiletto boots, UGG boots… but IMO, no other boot transcends seasons or trends quite like a cowboy boot. When compared to stompy boots like the biker or Chelsea, a cowboy style feels slightly dressier, and more playful. They’re not as wintery as over-the-knee boots, either, so you’ll find plenty of them among the best festival outfit ideas. Granted they’re not quite as comfy as a pair of UGGs, but out of all these boot styles, you’ll find cowboy boots are some of the most comfy (just avoid anything too pointy if you have a wider foot), because you can get away with a lower heel height that still looks glam.
So, if you’re in the market for a new pair, or dipping your toes into the trend for the first time, here are the best cowboy boots on the high street right now, with some added inspo from team Eliza!
Classic cowboy boots
I’ve been wearing a pair of classic black cowboy boots for months now, either with jeans tucked into them or with dresses and tights. As we move into summer, style them like Eliza’s editorial assistant Laren and wear with a floaty summer dress.
Suede cowboy boots
For a softer look going into summer switch to a pair of suede cowboy boots or boots in a lighter shade. You’ll want to protect them with a good suede protectant even in warmer months so you’re not worried about getting maxmium use out of them.
Cropped cowboy boots
When you’re a fan of straight or wide-leg jeans, long cowboy boots can be a difficult pairing, as the boots are unlikely to fit underneath and if you try tucking your trousers into the boots there’ll be a lot of bunched up fabric. In this scenario, I’d recommend a cropped cowboy boot style, which you can wear underneath rigid denim jeans.
Cropped cowboy boots will also look great with slip dresses, midis and maxi dresses, when a longer style boot could look too heavy for summer.
Silver cowboy boots
Eliza’s MD Hannah Blake’s been causing a stir in her Stradivarius space cowboy boots. From brightening up a dinner and drinks outfit with a subtle glimmer to making an all-out statement at one of the year’s festivals, there’s a reason metallic cowboy boots are here to stay.
Festival boots
These boots are made for walking… *correction* these boots are made for festivals. Pair yours with a mini skirt like our beauty editor Rebecca Fearn, festival denim cut-off shorts, or a ditsy floral dress and you’ll have festival-ready main character energy.
