It’s official, sequin season has arrived – at least in the shops that is. And, if you’re a savvy shopper like me, you’ll know that now is the perfect time to snap up all the must-have party pieces, from jewellery to shoes to jumpsuits, before they sell out and you’re left stressing and wondering what to wear when those invites do start rolling in.
Luckily, there are some seriously good pieces around that will not only ensure all eyes are on you when you enter the party but that you can also reach for year after year. It’s important to remember, most sequins aren’t biodegradable, so it’s important to invest in styles that you’ll love for life, not just for Christmas. Ready to start shopping? Here’s my pick of the best sequin styles available right now…
The sequin mini dress
Run, don’t walk to pick up this dress. The pink version hit stores in the summer and sold out in no time, so I couldn’t be happier that River Island has bought it back for Christmas in three fun colourways. This lilac and silver combo is perfect for party season, nodding to winter without feeling totally festive. Pair with sky high silver platforms and minimal accessories to make sure it’s all about the dress.
The sequin mini skirt
This skirt is giving serious Paco Rabanne vibes at a fraction of the price making it the perfect piece if you want something that’ll stay in your wardrobe way beyond this year’s party season. I’d pair this with a simple white tee and a blazer for an easy take on high-low dressing. And, if knee high boots aren’t your style you could also re-work this with trainers or strappy heels depending on the occasion.
The sequin trousers
Forget jeans and a nice top, this is the year of a top and the party trouser and this Zara pair fit the bill perfectly. Featuring a high rise waist and statement gold sequins on the front and the back (something that’s highly important in my opinion), these are begging to be worn on your next night out. Play with textures by introducing a satin crop top and tweed bag to your look, the contrast will make your outfit feel luxe without being too OTT.
The sequin midi dress
If you’re looking for a sequin dress that’ll ensure all eyes are on you come party season then add this Warehouse dress to your basket ASAP. I am obsessed with every aspect of this dress, from the funnel neck to the fluted sleeves, and let’s not ignore the show stopping lime green tone – the Grinch could never. Simply add gold platforms and you’re good to go.
The sequin top
Need the perfect smart casual party look? This top with a pair of straight leg jeans and ankle boots is sure to look totally effortless while still giving off those party season vibes. Unlike other sequin tops, this one set’s the bar for me, as the rectangular sequins give a modern feel while still feeling wearable. I’d wear this for Christmas drinks at the pub or even to a house party to turn up the sparkle.
The sequin blazer
What’s better than a great blazer? A great sequin blazer, obviously. This one from NA-KD is the perfect party season cover-up as it’ll work with everything from a LBD to jeans and a knit. For a truly special look though, pair with the matching trousers and add a matching metallic cami underneath. You’ll be giving tin-man-takes-on-party-season with a tonal dressing twist. I’d finish with trainers to tap into the relaxed fit of the blazer, but you could also add boots or heels if your heart desired.
