As much as I am a certified summer girl, you simply cannot beat autumn / winter fashion. Layering is my favourite way to put an outfit together and topping off a look with statement coats is just *chef’s kiss*.
It’s *the* finishing touch to any outfit this winter, and because I’m someone who doesn’t shy away from colour, patterns and prints, I’m going to share my favourite statement coats that are guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face as they see you walking by, especially on those dreary winter mornings.
Step away from the camel, and let’s dive right in.
Where to buy the best statement coats on the high street
Massimo Dutti’s orange wool coat
I feel like Massimo Dutti doesn’t get enough credit, but I’m here to put you on! It’s the sleeker older sister to Zara, and I’m absolutely here for it. This gorgeous tangerine colour is just everything! I feel like with an all-pink, head-to-toe look this would be especially show-stopping. I could see myself strolling through the streets of London (or Milan!) all winter in this. SAD, where?
Mango’s faux shearling-lined coat
Mango is one of my favourite high street brands that really hits the mark when it comes to classic dressing with a twist.
I love that it’s taken a very traditional aviator jacket and modernised it with the bold cobalt blue shade. It’s an easy way to introduce colour to your winter wardrobe but not in a trend-led flash-in-the-pan way thanks to the timeless shape of the jacket.
The model has styled it in with all blue outfit, which I love, but I would pair this colour with a bright yellow jumper to really get into the primary colour theme for an unexpected take.
Mint Velvet’s cream faux fur jacket
The Instagram girls have gone mad for this style of faux fur buckled jacket, which is essentially a dupe of Toteme’s infamous shearling jacket, but at a mere fraction of the price. If you’re someone who isn’t so easily tempted by colour, I feel like winter white is a way to make a real statement, especially with the faux fur texture.
I love the cropped length of this as well, such an easy everyday piece that you can wear casually with jeans, but the jacket makes you look effortlessly chic.
John Lewis’s pink shawl coat
You just knew I had to throw a bit of pink in here, right? This Barbie pink really is the colour of the season, popularised on the catwalk by Valentino, and it is here to stay.
We’ve seen it in dresses, suits, heels and now in outerwear and I couldn’t be happier. I think this is such an effortless way to add it into your wardrobe if you’re feeling daring – it’s an attention grabbing colour, to be fair. Pair with any metallics – think a nice silver sequin dress for the holiday season or even a black velvet suit with metallic silver heels – and you’re on to a winner!
Hobbs’ olive green wool coat
This is another one for anyone who might want to dip their toe into something bright but aren’t yet swayed by a fuchsia pink. This beautiful forest green shade has a timeless silhouette but still counts as a pop of colour that can go well with any neutral colour palette.
The long length of the coat adds a bit of drama, so you can keep the rest of your outfit relatively pared back. This coat would pair really well with chunky sole boots to really toughen up the elegance of the cut and bring the look into 2022.
Mango’s oversized faux fur coat
Once again, Mango is killing the game when it comes to statement coats – this oversized faux fur number will add drama and texture to any outfit. This is the kind of coat you wear to a holiday party or a winter wedding thrown over a beautiful sequin or silky dress – she *is* the moment! This is also another easy colour to wear, but the coat still makes a statement because of the length and the texture. It also comes in extended sizes online, up to 4XL.
Honestly, I could go on and on, the high street is really giving options for any style, cut, colour and texture you could want this winter. I hope I’ve given you a little bit of inspiration for adding some pops of colour and a dash of drama to your winter coats. Go forth and be cosy, cute and comfortable above all things, but be sure to add a little wow factor while you’re at it!
