Gloves – the sort of item you don’t really give much thought to until you really need them, right? Allow us to change that. Consider winter gloves an essential part of your cold weather wardrobe – an item that you buy once and wear for a long time.
We’ve rounded up the six best brands to buy the very best winter gloves from, and the cosiest pairs to invest in now…
UGG
We all know and love UGG for their signature sheepskin boots (if you don’t own a pair, do it!) but their gloves are heavenly too.
Some of the best winter gloves you could buy, they’re simple in design but incredibly luxurious. The price tag is high but they will last you forever.
The sheepskin side tab tech gloves are a particular favourite, featuring sheepskin treated for water resistance and a leather palm patch so you can use your smartphone while keeping your digits warm.
Uniqlo
Uniqlo is a one-stop-shop when it comes to practical pieces that don’t compromise on style.
You’re no doubt familiar with their affordable cashmere sweaters, but how about their cashmere gloves? Yep, 100% cashmere gloves for less than £30. Cashmere is warmer than wool – the fibres are finer and are brilliant at trapping heat without adding extra weight – so cashmere gloves are an excellent option, especially at Uniqlo prices.
If you want something a little hardier, opt for the Heattech lined thermal gloves.
Lululemon
Lululemon may be best known for its workout and athleisure gear, for which it has a cult-like following, but the Canadian brand also does a great line in accessories. Case in point, its array of some of the best winter gloves and mittens, which is tightly edited but exciting. Whether you’re after gloves specifically for running or just want something casual, this is the place for you.
We love the fleece-lined knitted mittens, which are gloriously chunky, and also the tech-friendly Warm Revelation gloves, which allow you to use your phone without taking them off.
COS
Our love for COS knows no bounds. The Swedish high street label is unrivaled in its ability to produce classic pieces with a contemporary twist. Its glove offering is no different, with sophisticated styles that are anything but boring.
The layered leather gloves in a rich purple hue are probably my favourite – the ribbed wool overlay mimics a long knitted cuff – while the colour block leather gloves are an outrageously sophisticated take on a classic leather style. You may be inclined to save these stylish gloves for best, but don’t! The joy is in wearing them.
Johnstons of Elgin
As we’ve already established, cashmere is warmer than wool so it really is worth the investment when it comes to buying the best winter gloves. And there’s no finer brand to invest in the Johnstons of Elgin, a family-run business that still makes all of its products in rural Scotland.
Their glove selection is small but perfectly formed, with just five or so styles available, but all come in an array of beautifully muted colours.
We love the button loop gloves, with feature a dainty button fastening at the wrist, and the classic fingerless style, which are great for those that hate the hassle of taking gloves on and off to free up fingers.
Aspiga
Aspiga is a B Corp-certified British brand that may not be on your radar, even though it’s been around since 2006. It’s not dissimilar to Boden in aesthetic but is a little higher up the price scale – its pieces are an investment but they are the sort of items you’ll wear year in, year out as they don’t centre around trends. Its glove selection is particularly good, and offers designs we haven’t seen anywhere else.
The wool and cashmere blend touchscreen-compatible gloves come in a range of lovely colours and have an elegant leather loop detail that defines the wrist, making them look so much more special than your average gloves.
The Love Hope gloves are also lovely with their graphic stripes and lettering.
