At what time of year does maximalist dressing really come into play? New Year’s Eve. And who is the screen queen of maximalist fashion? Emily in Paris.

Emily in Paris series 3 has launched on Netflix, right in time for a Christmas binge. A whirlwind of outfits and storylines that are as frothy, shiny and bright as each other? Pass us the Quality Street, we’re in (guilty).

From the very first series, Emily’s outlandish outfits have veered wildly away from the trending minimal and chic Parisian aesthetics on Insta to embrace a sense of style that’s predictably unpredictable and where bolder is better and colour reigns. (What would Wednesday Addams say?)

Emily in Paris outfits might not be your inspo for everyday style, especially for a bougee weekend away to the French capital, but they are the perfect starting point for a standout New Year’s Eve look. From her kaleidoscopic jumper and fluorescent mini skirt combo, to her inky-blue velvet trouser suit and her high-neck silver sequin dress, Emily has party-dressing nailed.

Emily’s colour-pop jumper from Essentiel Antwerp has flown straight off the site *quelle horreur*. But, let’s be honest, wearing the exact one would be a bit much anyway. Take a pinch of inspiration with one of these bright knits instead. Pair with a metallic mini skirt like Emily for a smart-meets-casual, festive-meets-glam NYE outfit, or wear one with your favourite pair of jeans for a more low-key vibe.

Metallic mini skirts

Wearing a metallic mini skirt is a great option for NYE as it’ll bring a party element to any outfit, whether you’re staying local or dressing up for a big night out. Wear with a chunky knit à la Emily in Paris, or tuck in a thin roll-neck jumper for a simple look that’d be great for dinner and drinks or a house party. Or, if you’re going clubbing, dress it up with a bodysuit or tee.

Head-to-toe silver sequins

If you’ve not yet had your fill of sequins this party season, then New Year’s Eve is the night to go for it. Silver sequins, like Emily’s, are especially timeless, so are a great investment for partywear all-year-round.

Zebra print

There’s not just one zebra print look in the Emily in Paris trailer, there’s two. Even the effortlessly elegant and stylish Sylvie is wearing the statement animal print. All of these high street pieces would be great for NYE. Pair the tops with a slip skirt, mini skirt or leather trousers and wear the dresses with knee-high boots or platforms.
