As a brand dedicated to helping millennial women shop smarter, championing those female-founded fashion brands that’ll also help you do just that is what we’re all about. Every day we highlight amazing content creators who (quite literally) inspire us with what to wear each morning, the labels we can turn to for stylish buys year-round and the celebrities who tick our fashion boxes.
For International Women’s Day 2023, we’re spotlighting a handful of brands founded and run by fabulous female-identifying innovators who have created amazing labels that are taking the fashion world by storm. Use your spending power to support them today and always, while looking super-chic in the process. Happy IWD!
By Rotation
By Rotation is a social fashion rental app, which offers users a chance to easily rent out their wardrobe while renting from others, encouraging a circular fashion industry.
Eshita Kabra-Davies is the brains behind the app, and acts as the CEO. She hoped to raise awareness regarding sustainability in the fashion industry and create an inclusive community. She certainly has. The app currently has over 60,000 fashion items listed, so if you’re in need of a special occasion dress that you know you won’t wear again, renting on By Rotation is the smart solution.
WAT The Brand
WAT The Brand was launched by stylists and friends Philippa Ross and Sarah Tankel Ellis, aka We Are Twinset. The two have become a fashion force over the years, covering minimal everyday style inspiration on Instagram, a luxe clothing brand with chic minimal vibes, and most recently, a brilliant podcast called Twinset Unzipped.
If you’re after high-quality wardrobe staples, get the brand on your shopping list as these two ladies really know what they’re doing.
Astrid & Miyu
Any gold-jewellery fan will know of A&M, the go-to high street brand for cute jewellery that looks much more expensive than it is.
Its founder Connie Nam launched the brand from the kitchen table in her London flat over 10 years ago, and it has become more of an ‘experience’ since: piercings, welded bracelets and the sweetest tattoos are all available in A&M stores.
If you’re ever stuck for jewellery styling, head straight to its Instagram for ear and ring-stacking inspo aplenty.
Ace & Prince
Lifestyle label Ace & Prince was founded by stylist Chloe Forde in 2018. As the brand nears its 5th birthday, its striped totes have hit icon status (you’ll have seen them all over your Insta feed, guaranteed).
If you’re looking for an outfit you can run errands in on the weekend and look and feel great, team an A&P sweatshirt (they’re the cosiest), with its joggers and a tote –and you’re good to go.
Kitri
If you’re after a cute printed dress you won’t see on everyone else, a quirky knit or the fanciest co-ords (the new Vintage Plates print is a fashion team favourite), British label Kitri is the one.
It’s in its 6th year of ruling the wedding-guest-dressing scene and brightening up our workwear wardrobes, and it still operates with a sustainably-led model. All collections are produced in limited runs so as to reduce waste and not overproduce.
Hush
Hush is a fashion-team favourite for its mood-brightening pieces, from cosy loungewear, PJs and bright knits to printed dresses and slogan tees. The aesthetic all makes sense when you hear why founder Mandy Watkins first started designing in 2003. Faced with a British winter for the first time after coming over from sunny Australia, Mandy needed cosy clothes for getting through long winter nights.
Now, Hush has an international team with over 100 women and are supporting IWD this year by partnering with global female charity Women for Women. Its ‘Women Unite, Unite Women’ tee is now available and for every tee sold £10 will be donated to the Women for Women charity until 12th March 2023.
Never Fully Dressed
Never Fully Dressed founder Lucy Aylen knows how to design clothes that lift you up. Her infectious entrepreneurial and creative spirit materialises into colourful printed co-ords, dresses, and blouses that make you feel amazing.
For International Women’s Month the brand’s joined forces with Bobbi Brown to launch a Pretty Powerful Washbag Set – 100% of the RRP goes towards Smart Works Charity, which helps thousands of women into employment through stylish interview clothing, styling advice and personalised interview coaching.
There’s also this charity tee celebrating International Women’s Day this year:
Seventy + Mochi
Seventy + Mochi was founded in 2020 by Haya Iqbal Ahmed with a community-based, female-led ethos celebrating traditional craftsmanship and working women.
This focus on seasonless and consciously-kind design is apparent in its signature denim pieces. The new collection includes jackets, blouses, jumpsuits and jeans with pretty retro twists and stitching details, all made from a mix of recycled and organic materials and circular production processes.
We Are We Wear
Natalie and Chelsea founded We Are We Wear in 2019, quitting their jobs and setting up an eco-friendly underwear and swimwear brand to challenge unrealistic body standards.
Today its collection stocks sizes from an XS to 3XL and bra sizes from 30A to 44FF which are all made for fit and comfort, and looking to the future they’re working towards a fully inclusive product range that moves towards genderless silhouettes.
