The January sales are in full swing, but if you’re anything like me and spent an arm and a leg at parties and on presents over the festive season, you’ll be pleased to know there are tons of bargains to be had.
While a few of our favourite brands (Zara and Mango, we’re looking at you) dabble in Black Friday by discounting one or two categories, come the January sales, they go all out. I’m talking 50% of the whole autumn/winter collection.
Whether you’re looking for a new top to brighten up the January blues, a smart blazer for the return to work or a chic winter coat to see you through till spring, these are the sales bargain you need to snap up ASAP.
The best sales buys in H&M
H&M’s partywear collection was among the best on the high street this season, and smart shoppers among us know that just because party season is out of the way, it doesn’t mean we won’t benefit from having a fabulous dress in our arsenal for Valentine’s day and birthday dinners.
Head to H&M for great coats which are up to 50% off. This belted wool number is a perennial style that you’ll turn to every winter.
The best sales buys in Zara
The Zara sales kicked off on Boxing day, but as the brand adds pieces to the sale selection and slashes prices over the course of a few weeks, there are stylish buys to be found right up until the end of January.
This isn’t the store to browse and then come back to later, however. If you see something you truly love in the Zara sale, snap it up as soon as you can. Better safe than sorry!
The best sales buys in Mango
Mango’s shoe selection is unrivalled on the high street, so come sale season, it’s the perfect time to invest in a high-quality pair. Sleek black knee-highs are always a good idea, and these will look particularly good with this floral midi and a camel wool coat for the office.
The brand’s Toteme dupe shearling coats have been a talking point all season, so nab this chic caramel style number while there’s £30 off.
The best sales buys in Warehouse
Warehouse has become synonymous with generous discounts, but none have been as good as the January sales offering. Currently it has up to 80% off everything from coats and jeans to dresses and boots, and the size selection is (miraculously) still quite complete.
I’d recommend its jackets: The Frankie Shop quilted dupes are lightweight enough to throw on under a bigger wool coat for extra warmth now, then wear them on their own come spring.
The best sales buys in & Other Stories
& Other Stories is a well-rounded high street hero: it excels at knitwear that looks way more expensive than the price tags suggest, produces some of the best midi dresses (that you won’t see everywhere), and has slick tailoring covered. I say all that to say it should be one of the first places you hit on your sales shopping spree.
Coat-wise, this double-breasted checked number is an absolute gem: pair it with a knitted dress and boots for work, or with jeans and a striped knit off-duty.
The best sales buys in ASOS
The joy with ASOS is that it’s home to more brands than we can count, which means if your favourite Mango, Ugg or & Other Stories buys are sold out on their respective sites, it’s well worth heading to ASOS just in case.
If you’re on a ‘new year, new you’ hype, ASOS has bargain gymwear down pat. Mix and match its own-brand 4505 range with Nike, Adidas and New Balance for a stylish workout look.
The best sales buys in River Island
Simple metallic mini dresses never go out of style, so stock up on a few that’ll see you through fancy dinners and drinks with a change of accessories. Pair with sheer black tights, knee-high boots and cardigans for dinner, then with a blazer and metallic platforms for parties.
Elsewhere at RI, ‘nice tops’ is one of its strongest sale categories: team silky blouses with jeans and kitten heels for a chic smart/casual look.
