I’ve always been that friend that if you need an outfit idea for a wedding, then I’ve got you! You’re not going to be last-minute bulk ordering every dress under the sun on ASOS Premier on my watch. I get it though, every wedding is different, the dress codes are different, and all of our tastes are different, but there’s something about a wedding that makes us feel incredibly frantic and like all of our options are dwindling.
But there’s no need to panic. I’ve pulled together some chic options that will have you scrolling in a totally non-frantic way. So if you want to pull a look without upstaging the bride, you don’t want to wear a dress, you’re going to a destination wedding, whatever the theme, I’m here for you.
If you… don’t want to wear a dress
This bold pink suit from Sezane is for those of us who want to show how much we love love! You already know that pink is my favourite colour (I do believe it’s the happiest), and this double breasted blazer and trouser set is a great way to make a statement without feeling too stuffy or overdressed.
You could wear it with leather sandals to really give it a tougher, more masculine edge, or strappy metallic heels for some height. I also love how the brand has styled it on the website with a neck scarf for added interest.
If it’s… black tie
Now when I say showstopper, this is a showstopper. I just love Marina Rinaldi because she has been such a stalwart in the plus size space, a true believer in the idea that anybody regardless of size can wear luxury and has been doing this for over 40 years.
This long, embroidered dress has a stunning cape and really speaks for itself for any black tie event. If you’re on a budget, you can rent Marina Rinaldi from Felicity Hayward’s wardrobe on ByRotation.

If you’ve… got a wedding with a Bridgerton twist
Whenever I want something elegant and playful, I always look at Sister Jane. The brand goes from strength to strength each season, and when I spotted this cornflower blue maxi dress, I was thinking, it’s giving regency era. It’s giving opulence. I love the blue ribbons and frills that run through that give it a bit of texture and shape, despite the dress being a little on the roomy side.
If you… just want something black
I’ve heard debates about not wearing black to a wedding, but I’ve never felt like there’s ever been an issue with it. That, and if you’ve got a cocktail reception evening, I think that’s the perfect setting for a classic LBD.
If you’re keen to mix it up, look no further than the RIXO Sandrine dress which has a classic bias cut with an empire waistline. Layered with gold jewellery and a gold belt, this would be such a beautiful wedding guest outfit. It also comes in navy blue and pink, as well as extended sizing.
If you… want to try a jumpsuit
Jumpsuits always feel like such a very statement look without looking like you’re doing too much, and this jumpsuit from Phase Eight is exactly that. I love the baby blue, which feels so perfect for summer and it comes with a removable lace cardigan, which is a nice touch, and particularly handy for temperamental UK weather. I’d pair it with some bright yellow or orange accessories if you’re feeling bold to really bring the look into 2023.
If you… want to to be bold with florals
Now I know what I said about ASOS Premier, but if it ain’t broke! Honestly, I didn’t mean go crazy on 10 dresses at once, when really, you only need this one. I love the bold watercolour floral print on this dress. One thing’s for sure, you will be so comfortable in this floaty piece. The colours really are perfect for summer and this is bound to put a smile on everyone’s face. I think metallic platform heels for this would be stunning and really round off the look!
If you… need a good high street option
I simply couldn’t resist recommending something from M&S because I just know I can count on them for something easy to wear, yet totally elegant, and at a good price point.
This satin round neck tea dress is the perfect midi dress for a wedding, but it’s also something that can take you through so many different occasions –Easter, christenings, birthday parties, you name it. It can be easily dressed up with barely-there white strappy sandals, or with flats for when you get tired on the dance floor and need to hang up the heels.
Maybe you’ve found your next look or this has at least sparked an idea for an outfit in your mind, whether you’re into a simple, smart style or a bold, elegant one. I hope these suggestions have been helpful and will see you through day to night dancing away!
