I’ve budgeted £100 to spend on a new outfit this month. What are the best wardrobe updaters I can buy right now?
The cost of clothing is on the up (even in high street favourites like H&M), but I’m convinced there are still some great bargains to be found to give your wardrobe a boost that don’t scrimp on quality. It just takes a bit longer searching for them, so your outfits can still look designer, even if the price tag isn’t half as spenny.
A lunch break trip to Zara might be tempting for that quick wardrobe fix, but how easy is it to spend way more than you planned to, picking up pieces you’ll wear once or twice that you end up needing to sell on Vinted? Dangerously easy, especially with the direction Zara prices are going.
This week’s Ask Eliza was a chance to work out whether putting together a stylish outfit for under £100 was still feasible. It wasn’t an easy task (especially including shoes!) but the results were optimistic.
Here are six of my favourite outfits under £100:
Outfit 1: £17.99 + £13 + £35 + £29.99 = £95.98
A classic workwear look in the Eliza office, we love a striped shirt and tailored trouser combo. For this colder weather try layering a thin turtleneck top underneath.
Striped shirt, £17.99, H&M
Turtleneck, £13, La Redoute
Grey wide tailored trousers, £35, Monki
Loafers, £29.99, Zara
Outfit 2: £39.99 + £39.99 + £20 = £99.98
A co-ord is a savvy buy for cost-per-wear, so divert from the popular knitted dresses (we love these too for outfits under £100!) and consider a knitted two-piece instead.
Thick knit jumper, £39.99, Reserved
Jersey skirt, £39.99, Reserved
Chunky lace up boot, £20, Oasis
Outfit 3: £29.99 + £22.99 + £24.99 + £12.99 = £90.96
If you’ve seen our favourite Toteme dupes on Eliza’s TikTok, you might have spotted *that utility shacket*, which we’re predicting will be popular this spring season. Get ahead of the trend with this classic style from H&M that looks far more expensive that its £29.99 price tag.
Twill shacket, £29.99, H&M
Fine knit stripe sweater, £22.99, Mango
Wide ultra high jeans denim blue, £24.99, H&M
Ballet pumps, £12.99, H&M
Outfit 4: £35 + £19.99 + £29.99 + £12.99 = £97.97
How about a main-character mini skirt for a bold outfit updater? Pair with a bright knit and chunky boots for a look that’ll see you through to the summer.
Orange crop jumper, £35, Omnes
Linen-blend white shirt, £19.99, H&M
Pleated skirt, £29.99, Mango
Flat ankle boots, £12.99, Pull & Bear
Outfit 5: £18.99 + £34.99 + £32.99 + £9.99 = £96.96
Update a striped jumper look with new season cargo trousers and a puffer gilet. All three pieces will give a new season refresh to your 2023 wardrobe, but each is still classic enough (especially if you love keeping it chic with all black looks) that you won’t be ditching them after a few months for a new trend.
Striped rib knit jumper, £18.99, H&M
Puffer gilet, £34.99, New Look
Black slim fit cargo trousers, £32.99, New Look
Trainers, £9.99, Pull & Bear
Outfit 6: £22.50 + £25.99 + £29.99 + £20 = £98.48
We love a knitted vest (read our guide here on how to style them), and this nautical style from M&S is a bargain at only £22.50. Denim midi skirts and cowboy boots are also staying put for the year ahead so are a great investment for building outfits under £100 (that look more expensive!)
