I’m going to Sleeping Beauty at The Royal Opera house as a special treat for my mum’s birthday. I’ve never been to see a ballet before so would love some ideas for what to wear!
Take inspiration from the ballet and picture dressy midi skirts, luxe slouchy jumpers, soft wide-leg trouser suits and beautiful dresses for your outfit. I’m not suggesting you go all out with tutus and bodysuits, but soft tailoring and silky separates are useful when it comes to formal settings, especially when you still want to feel comfy and relaxed for a two hour+ performance!
Going to see a ballet is a special treat, so you’ll want to dress accordingly and switch up your everyday looks with an outfit that feels more elevated than the norm. You might be going to a fancy dinner beforehand or drinks out afterwards too so it’s an opportunity to dress up. Of course, the level of formality depends on the venue you’ll be going to, and while you don’t need to be in black tie or even cocktail attire, don’t be afraid to add a little bit of polish to your look.
If you’re feeling stuck working out what to wear to the ballet, here are seven new-season outfit ideas.
A silky co-ord
A skirt + slouchy knit
More beautiful skirts for wearing to the ballet
Soft knitted co-ords
A leather blazer + tailored trousers
