Chances are, you’ll have heard of Bobbi Brown, the world-renowned makeup artist whose original namesake brand was created and built up from her years of experience working in the fashion and beauty world.
Of course, Bobbi Brown (the brand) has some iconic products, such as the Shimmer Brick, £39, Sephora, and Face Base, £16, Sephora. However, it’s Brown’s newest brand, Jones Road Beauty, which has stolen a place in my heart (and my makeup bag) forever. Why? Well, there’s its no-makeup-makeup ethos for a start, with product that create a glowing your-skin-but-better finish.
Then there’s the innovative formulas – all super lightweight, buildable and easy to blend – take the new Gel Bronzer, £32, Jones Road Beauty, which is an absolute must for your summer makeup kit.
What is Jones Road Beauty?
Let’s begin with a quick recap: Bobbi (the person) sold Bobbi Brown (the brand) to Estee Lauder in 1995 but didn’t leave the company properly until 2016. Not ready to turn her back on the makeup world just yet (to which I will be eternally grateful), in 2020, she launched Jones Road Beauty.
If you didn’t already know, you probably wouldn’t guess that the two companies were founded by the same person. At first glance, the packaging is a stark contrast to the other; Bobbi Brown’s signature black packaging is the complete opposite to Jones Road’s bright off-white design.
What makes Jones Road Beauty so special?
Described as ‘the makeup equivalent of a swiss army knife’, Jones Road Beauty offers a streamlined approach to makeup with multi-use, high-performing products that can be used by everyone – from complete makeup novices to highly trained MUAs. In fact, Bobbi started creating these products to use in her own kit, hence each product’s multi-tasking abilities.
Because the majority of these products can be used in multiple ways, it’s a great way to minimise your makeup bag, especially if you travel a lot or often do your makeup on the commute.
Three years on from its launch and Jones Road has already achieved cult status with its Miracle Balm, and become a certifiable viral Tiktok sensation thanks to that What The Foundation video.
But beyond the hype, what are the products that will actually make a worthwhile difference to your makeup routine?
The best Jones Road Beauty makeup products
I’ve tried every single product from Jones Road Beauty and these are the 6 products that have remained in my makeup bag.
Jones Road Beauty Gel Bronzer, £32
This bronzer just happens to be Jones Road Beauty’s latest launch and it couldn’t have come at a better time – it’s my new summer beauty staple. Simply dab on with fingers, or it applies well with the Jones Road Beauty The Everything Brush, £40, Liberty. The sheer gel formula blends like a dream for a rich bronze that doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. In fact, it feels like you’re not wearing any product at all
It comes in three shades that go a surprisingly long way (light, medium and dark) – the formula is so lightweight that it layers easily for buildable colour, so you can tailor the finish to suit your desired level of glow.
Jones Road Beauty Miracle Balm, £36
I’ve waxed lyrical about this balm to anyone that will listen and pretty much whenever I’m wearing it, people will ask what it is.
At first, I was confused, perplexed and bamboozled at this balm; how does it work? Where do I apply it? While it took me a few tries to get the application process down, fortunately our beauty editor Becky created a video debunking how to use it.
Once you’ve broken the seal, this gorgeous balmy formula can be applied pretty much anywhere on your face to give the most natural, ‘I’ve-just-been-sunning-myself-in-St-Tropez’ glow.
There are nine shades, which include everything from rosy and flushed pinks to sheer and deep bronzes. For dry and combination skin types, this sits on the skin like a dream, but oilier skin types shouldn’t avoid it; you can apply it on your lips, cheeks and eyelids for an instant hit of colour and luminosity, so it’s got a use for everyone.
Jones Road Beauty The Lip Tint, £26
Oh Jones Road Lip Tint, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. My ideal everyday lip, beauty editor Becky and I have both shown up to the office on many an occasion wearing this product (her ride or die is Merlot, mine is Black Cherry).
With a smaller applicator than your usual lipstick, this Lip Tint imparts a sheer, stained glossy finish to your pout, and is what I call the ideal ‘non-committal’ lipstick.
You can apply it effortlessly in a swipe without having to go in with a lip brush, touch it up throughout the day without a mirror and when it does wear off, you’re left with a soft lip stain. It’s the ultimate lazy girl lip.
Jones Road Beauty Just A Sec, £25
As an unashamed lazy girl, I was a bit miffed to realise that my makeup look does in fact look a lot more polished when I’m wearing a bit of colour on my eyes. Obviously, I was immediately eager when I heard about Just A Sec, Jones Road’s eye colour that literally takes a couple of seconds to apply.
Somewhere between a mousse and gel texture that doesn’t move around once set, all you need to do is apply this product to your finger, swipe, and go. It’s really that easy.
What I also love is the shimmery, multi-dimensional finish which lends your look an air of ‘I spent time on this, because I am the kind of person who gets up early enough to do this.’
Spoiler: I am not, but it keeps them guessing.
Pewter, a grungey metallic grey, has my heart whereas Linen is the perfect eye-opening highlight shade for all skin tones.
Jones Road Beauty What The Foundation, £42
Jones Road’s What The Foundation has made it into our Hall of Fame Foundations piece, and for many a good reason. It’s one of the most unique base products I’ve ever tried with a thicker, almost cream-like texture which, as someone who prefers serum textures, at first made me hesitant to try it. Don’t let it deceive you: this foundation has one of the most lightweight, natural finishes once it’s buffed into the skin, and a small amount goes far.
The formula is incredibly moisturising for the skin. I would caveat that those with oilier skin might not get on with it as well, but for me and my parched face, this melted into my skin like a dream and gives gorgeous light, dewy coverage.
Jones Road Beauty The Hippie Stick, £32
If you suffer from dry or cracked skin anywhere on your body, you need this stick in your life. The ultimate multipurpose product, this buttery balm can be applied on your face and body to help seal in moisture and nourish the skin.
It’s a fantastic addition to your skincare routine if you’ve just started using retinol and are trying to combat the drying side effects, or if you’ve overdone it on the acids and need to show your skin barrier some TLC with slugging.
I also apply it to my limbs for an extra sheen and use it on my hands before bed when they’re feeling super rough. Oh, and if you love aromatherapy (who doesn’t?!), you’ll be pleased to know that the smell is divine.
