Alongside finding your holy-grail foundation and the perfect shade of nude lipstick, discovering your signature scent is most definitely high on every beauty lover’s wishlist. I mean, who doesn’t want to be associated with a delicious smelling perfume to the point that it reminds other people of them?!
But, finding your signature scent isn’t always easy, especially if you’re unsure where to start when it comes to finding a perfume that just feels like you. Luckily, I’ve come up with a failsafe (read: totally unsubstantiated) way to choose, without having to spritz your way aimlessly through endless perfumes in the hunt for the one.
So, here’s my guide to your perfect scent based on your fashion aesthetic. Get ready to meet your match (in fragrance form that is).
Soft girls wear…Maison Margiela Replica On a Date, £55
Of course, a soft girl needs a soft perfume to match and Maison Margiela’s ‘On a Date’ is the perfect option. Combining delicate floral notes of rose and geranium alongside rich blackcurrant, it’s reminiscent of every soft girl’s favourite pastime: sitting in the park sipping ice cold rosé.
And so what if it’s called ‘On A Date’? It’s 2023 and we’re dating ourselves, so there’s no need to save this for romantic occasions. Get spritzing and romanticize the everyday, like any true soft girl should.
Minimalists wear…Escentric Molecules Molecule 01, £95
If you’re a sucker for a capsule wardrobe and all things simple yet chic, you need Escentric Molecules’ classic fragrance Molecule 01.
Since launching in 2006, Molecule 01 has gained a cult following by those in the know (even Eliza’s beauty editor loves it) and it’s the perfect perfume for you minimalistic types because it contains just one note: Iso E Super.
But, this single note certainly doesn’t equal boring; never would I imply such a thing about minimalistic dressers by comparison. Rather, it works with each person’s natural pheromones to create a truly unique scent. Think subtle sophistication in perfume form.
Boho lovers wear…Byredo Gypsy Water, £140
If you’ve been living your best Daisy Jones & the Six-inspired life lately, you better get spritzing Byredo’s Gypsy Water to complete the vibe.
Combining earthy scents of pine needles and sandalwood with citrusy hits of lemon and bergamot, it’s uplifting yet mysterious, ideal for those who embrace the oh-so-stylish nomad aesthetic.
Fancy making your fragrance last even longer? Layer it up with the matching body wash and body lotion too.
Maximalists wear…Jo Loves Green Orange & Coriander, £115
Never has a perfume screamed maximalism more than Jo Loves Green Orange & Coriander. Much like your eclectic style choices, this fragrance is sure to provoke intrigue from anyone who happens to read the label on your dressing table, or anyone who’s lucky enough to get a whiff as you pass by.
Alongside tangy green orange, it also boasts black pepper and coriander seeds for a citrus scent with a twist. Apply liberally (as only a true maximalist would) for a punchy fragrance explosion.
Cosmic girls wear…Tory Burch Divine Moon, £75
I struggled to pick just one perfume from the new Tory Burch Essence of Dreams collection for my astrology obsessed girls, but ‘Divine Moon’ takes top spot thanks to its calming yet uplifting fragrance combination.
Blending sweet honey with delicate white florals, it’s musky without feeling heavy, ideal for wearing on light summer evenings as the stars come out.
And, if florals aren’t for you? Try Cosmic Wood, which blends spicy cardamom with jasmine and vetiver for a deeper yet equally as magical option.
