Fake tan: it’s a divisive product you either go mad for or avoid at all costs. I’ve been on a journey with fake tan, spanning from my first discovery of St. Tropez and mitts at 16 to my very lazy girl approach in my now-early thirties.
No matter how often you dabble, you can’t deny that having a fresh glow makes you feel your most confident self, no matter whether you’ve opted for a gradual tanner, a hardworking mousse or an all-out professional spray tan.
If you’re still a tanning novice like me (I’m still regularly ripped to shreds for my hands and feet application), I have a product that may just change your life: the Self-Tanning Water, £21.95, Isle Of Paradise.

Isle Of Paradise Self-Tanning Water: my verdict
- Benefits: Tans, adds glow, colour corrects
- Price: £21.95
- Ingredients: Grapefruit, chia seed and avocado oils
What is the Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Water?
Isle Of Paradise’s hydrating formula is a super lightweight water, which feels undetectable on skin upon application. It comes in a spray bottle, making it easy to disperse product across limbs, and is very quick to sink into skin.
The product is colour-less, which means it develops naturally and you can go about your day with ease. It also has a pleasant scent of cucumber and eucalyptus, meaning none of that tell-tale ‘biscuit’ fake tan odour.
IoP’s Self-Tanning Water comes in three options: light, medium and dark, meaning you can choose depending on your skin tone and desired result. I use the medium (green) bottle.
Another one of its benefits as well as tanning and adding a healthy glow is its colour-correcting abilities; it cleverly evens out skin tone.

How to use the Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Water
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this product. I’ve used a *lot* of self tanners, with this one sitting on a pedestal for a long while, and I don’t see it being knocked off any time soon. It offers a gorgeously even, natural-looking glow and as mentioned, it’s super easy to apply.
You can either apply direct from the spray bottle, or additionally invest in the brand’s mister, which offers a continuous spray tan application. This is the one I personally use, and I find it even easier and fuss-free.
On the whole, I love the Tanning Water most from Isle of Paradise, but if you’d prefer something easier and less committal, I also really like the tanning drops, which can be mixed with moisturiser and gradually built up.
These also come in three shades, and offer the same colour correcting properties.
Both formulas give a tan that lasts a good four to five days, more if topped up with drops regularly.
