Spring has officially sprung — but there’s still a chill in the air, so it’s not quite time to abandon our jackets just yet. April showers aren’t a myth, and that trusty old puffer you’ve had since 2015 will come in handy until summer comes. You know the one: the coat that takes up half your cupboard space and has you looking and feeling like a cosy marshmallow when it’s nippy outside.
However, if your old, faithful bestie (read: puffer jacket) is starting to look a bit worn and tattered through all the years of getting you through freezing commutes and being caught on branches during dog walks, it may be time to say your farewells and invest in a new one.
When you think of puffer jackets, the first brand that probably comes to mind is The North Face. They’re the indisputable ‘cult classic’ of coats, and since the 90s they’ve been rocked by everyone from your favourite singers, rappers, celebs and influencers, to your grandad when he pops down to the allotment. Even our favourite It girl Em Rata is a big fan of the brand, owning multiple styles and recently being spotted rocking a pink one during that snogging session with Harry Styles in Tokyo.

However, not everyone has the income of a celeb or the retirement fund of your grandad. So, if North Face is out of budget, I’ve come to your rescue and found the best North Face puffer dupes for all the most popular styles. You’re welcome!
The original black North Face puffer
This is the jacket that everyone instantly recognises and arguably the one that put North Face on the map as a ‘cool’ brand. It’s almost impossible to leave your house from October – April and not see at least one a day out in the wild.
Whilst they are unbeatable in cosiness and quality, below are some dupes for the more money savvy among us. (But if you are thinking of investing check out North Face’s XPLR Pass on our edit of the best high street brands for fashion perks and loyalty discounts next.)

The original cropped puffer
Whilst a puffer jacket isn’t exactly known for being the most flattering item of clothing, the cropped version really is out here putting in the work to prove that assumption wrong. Cutting off at the waist to let you have that extra bit of body on show whilst still keeping you cosy, it’s functionality and fashion all rolled into one. What’s not to love?

The original North Face down jacket
If the sea of black and grey I see on my commute every morning is anything to go by, it seems when the sun is hiding behind the clouds, it takes our fun-coloured clothing with it. But whoever made the unsaid rule that warm coats work in darks and neutrals only needs to have a word with the fashion police. I say stuff the rules and go wild. Long live rainbow colours! It is spring, after all.

The original North Face long puffer
There’s something about putting on a pair of leggings, sweatshirt, trainers and a long puffer jacket and cos-playing as a ‘soccer mum’ that brings me such joy. Once again another classic, worn by everyone from cool girls to football managers, there is no better coat than the long puffer on nippy days.
If you’ve ever wished you could leave your house wrapped in your duvet and not get funny looks, this puffer will make all your dreams come true.

The North Face shearling puffer
A wise man once said, ‘the key to happiness is to be wrapped in a big fluffy ball of cotton wool and be cosy till the end of days’. And so, the shearling puffer was born! I’m lying, that never happened. However, I can imagine that was what was going through the designer’s head when they first came up with this heavenly puffer.

The OG North Face metallic puffer
If you love a puffer but don’t want to get lost in the sea of same, why not go for a metallic one? Metallics are so in right now (you probably already own some silver trousers, right?) and a high-shine puffer is the perfect way to inject some fun into a neutral outfit.
Although the North Face doesn’t currently stock a metallic puffer, I’m forever obsessed with this vintage version of the classic 2000 style. Can’t source the OG in your size and want a more affordable version? Try any of these dupes. Each and every one is giving major Y2K music video/Après ski vibes, depending on how you style them.
