Eliza Approved spotlights those hero products worth the spend. Whether it’s classic favourites or what’s landed on our beauty editor’s desk this week, you can put your trust in our recommendations.
Glossier You is one of our all-time favourite scents. Read our review below of the OG perfume and why we love it. Spoiler: it smells slightly different on everyone, which is part of the attraction – verdicts in the office range from ‘warm but spicy and a little musky’ to ‘fresh and clean’.
At the moment, it comes in the 50ml bottle, a solid version and now (drumroll please) in a handbag-friendly rollerball option. Previously the rollerball was only available as part of a set so it’s a bit of a game-changer as it’s the same dreamy eau de parfum, in a format ideal for those little touch-ups on the go – no more taking up valuable handbag real-estate with a chunky glass bottle.
Glossier You perfume review
I’ll be honest: my road to discover Glossier You has been a rather long and windy one.
When I was 13, I would pour over copies of VOGUE and Glamour and fawn over the grainy, black and white Chloe Eau De Parfum advertising.
A marketer’s dream, I asked for the fragrance for Christmas without so much as sniffing a tester; that was my first ‘real’ perfume.

To nobody’s surprise, although I loved the way the bottle looked on my IKEA dressing table, the scent itself gave me a headache and was too floral for teenage me.
Ironically, now that I’m older, floral notes are something I specifically steer clear of, opting for more intense fragrances instead.
Anyhow, safe to say that because I didn’t like my Chloe Eau De Parfum, I didn’t wear it all that often and so it never became my ‘signature’.
At university, Calvin Klein Euphoria and Gucci Guilty became my reigning favourites for day and night respectively but, they weren’t identifiable as mine.
Fast forward to 2019, when I bought Glossier You on a total whim.
Does Glossier You smell different on everyone?
Much like my self-indulgent penchant for astrology and personality tests, I was curious. Curious what the perfume that famously smells different on each person’s skin would smell like on mine.
And to be honest, three years on, I’m not sure I could even tell you now. Just that when I wear it – which is almost every day – I always receive compliments.
Eliza’s editor Joanna said she associates the smell of Glossier You with me, and me with Glossier You.
Three others on the Eliza team bought it off the back of me wearing it in the office (perhaps making me… the ultimate influencer?).
Annie, our creative director, is convinced that it smells differently on her and has, very kindly, said that that there is no ‘you’ that Glossier You suits more than me. She certainly has a way with words…
Most reactions to the fragrance are visceral. “I need to know what you are wearing?!” is the most common and enthusiastic compliment I receive.

What does Glossier You perfume smell like?
What does it actually smell like though? Well, it’s hard to put such an ambiguous scent into words but, on my skin, I would describe it as warm but spicy and a little musky while Joanna would say it’s fresh and clean.
Safe to say, we’ll all be taking a fragrance sommelier course before you know it.
The notes listed by the brand include pink pepper, ambrette seeds and ambrox, but for me it’s less about this and more about the way it makes me feel.
What I can say it that it’s not a heavy scent and it has never given me a headache.
It’s not a scent I put on before an evening out to bolster my confidence, it’s the one I put on in the morning for a warm, soft embrace, if you will.
It smells like coming home to yourself. Like you, but better.
