Gifts that friend who’s always hot will appreciate this summer

Alfresco cocktails, cycling shorts, new sunnies and shaving your toes just before you leave the house…it’s almost officially summer. While most of us couldn’t be more grateful that cold weather and winter coats are behind us for a while, we all have that one friend who always runs hot, no matter the season. This is the gift guide for her. We’ve collated a bevy of options to gift her, no matter the occasion, to support in her eternal quest to cool down and stop muttering “is anyone else boiling?”.

We’ve got beauty buys – from reusable cryo-therapy face masks to an on-the-go calming mist –gifts for the home (did someone say ice-cold cocktails) and practical presents, including a travel fan with rave reviews and a mulberry silk pillowcase.

Everything comes in at under £60 (there is even an option for a fiver), but if you’re looking to splurge or buy from a whole group, you can mix and match too – the heart-shape ice cube tray goes perfectly with the gold rimmed gin glasses set. Trust us, she will love you forever.

Charlotte Tilbury Cryo-Recovery Face Mask, £49, Space NK

Multipurpose items are always a win in our book, and darling Charlotte’s Cryo-recovery mask cools you down while also working to lift and firm the face. Unlike many face masks, this one is reusable, and the metal beads and gel pockets encased in the silicone can be cooled in either a fridge or a freezer. Its ability to reduce puffiness makes it ideal for use after sleepless nights or a day by the pool. I could see a visible difference after just one use. You could gift it with CT’s Magic Serum for extra hydration (and a very lucky mate).

This Is Silk Silk pillowcase, £60, This Is Silk

Silk pillowcases are where a chilled nights’ sleep really lies, or more specifically, Mulberry silk. I love that the temperature-regulating 100% Mulberry Silk pillowcases from This Is Silk allow you to pick between a zipper or envelope closure, and that the range of colours is amazingly wide – the rose gold is a standout, IMO. Along with a better nights’ sleep you’re also gifting something that will be more gentle on your pal’s face and hair. I won’t blame you if you keep this one for yourself.

Organic cotton boho sun print short set, £35, Chelsea Peers

Chelsea Peers is the ever-reliable option for nightwear, and this short set in breezy organic cotton is ideal for hot sleepers. This summery design goes up to size 28, plus there’s a kids’ option if you want to go matchy-matchy. There are lots of other designs to choose from in the same material, ranging from jungle animals to stripes, so there should be a set your friend will love.

Isotonic Cooling Body Hydrator, £30.10, LookFantastic

The fan-fave ESPA Cooling Body Lotion has now got a fancy new sibling in the form of the Isotonic Cooling Body Hydrator. You really can’t go wrong with a cooling moisturiser in the warmer months and this new launch from ESPA is infused with ingredients like menthol and aloe to do just that. Plus, it smells like a spa day. I love the light jelly texture, and that along with making my legs feel all tingly, it didn’t sit on the skin, and I could get dressed almost straight away. This one’s a luxe option for a friend who enjoys the finer things.

La Dolce Vita Scrunchie Set, £39, LookFantastic

Slip’s scrunchies featured in the Grammy nominee gift bags this year, so they have celeb-level approval, and their new Dolce Vita set of six is perfect for the season ahead. One for the hot girls always trying to get their hair out of their face, their luxe material helps avoid creasing and damage (plus they look nice and feel comfortable on the wrist!). The six summer shades, in a ‘skinny’ design, come in a little transparent box, perfect for gifting.

It’s Too Fucking Hot pin, £5, PunkyPins

For a sweary gift (and who doesn’t love a sweary gift?), I love this rainbow design pin with a slogan you’ve probably heard your warm-blooded mate say a few times. The independent UK-business who makes it, PunkyPins, actually has a huge range (I fell into a scroll hole for a while). As it’s only a fiver, it’s ideal as part of a bundle of gifts, and this design also comes as a vinyl sticker

Icey Globes, £44.99, Farm Girl By Sarah Jane

I *love* that ice globes are no longer a thing only therapists get to have, and this set of two are the best I’ve tried. The first time I used them my hay fever was starting to make my eyes itchy, and these soothed them and took my under-eye puffiness away. They also arrive in a cute box, perfect for gifting. Sarah-Jane tells me they pair well with her CBD facial oil (which smells divine, by the way) if you’re looking to make a bundle for your mate.

Rosado Pink Stemless Gin Glasses Set of Four, £26, Oliver Bonas

If your friend’s a cocktail fan, these pretty pink glasses from Oliver Bonas look gorgeous and feel comfortable to hold, plus the gold rim gives them that extra something-something. They’re labelled as gin glasses, but they’d be suitable for pretty much any tipple of her choice.

Lékué Heart Ice Cube Tray, 14 Cube, £6.50, John Lewis

The perfect accompaniment to the Oliver Bonas glasses, this red tray makes 14 heart-shaped ice cubes . I love that it comes with a clip-on lid, to make the usually treacherous journey from the tap to the freezer spill-free. Perfect for your hot mate’s hydration needs, they can add chopped up fruit to the cubes to save time when they need a top-up!

Air Up Water Bottle, £24.99, Air Up

Seeing as no one can get their hands on that viral water bottle anymore, I wanted to find an alternative option for this guide, and this is a fun one you’ve probably also seen on social media. The Air Up bottle encourages the owner to drink more water thanks to its flavour pods, and the stainless steel version kept my desk water cold all-day long.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Calming Mist, £18, Boots

This face mist from Dr. Jart+ promises to calm and cool skin, it can be used as part of a cleansing routine, as a toner, at your desk in the office or on those sticky tube journeys home (the absolute worst). It’s suitable for sensitive skin and I like that the mist is fine enough to not interfere with my makeup if I apply it over the top. Anyone you gift this to will love it.

Handheld and Foldable Desk Fan, £12, John Lewis

This mini fan screams practical: it can be held or propped up on a desk or bedside table, is easy to charge via USB port, and I really like the combination of compact size and general sturdiness. Suitable for slinging in the bottom of a bag, for sure. However, the colour selection means it doesn’t feel like a boring gift, but a smart one – the sage green is bang on trend for this summer. Buy one for your mate, and one for you. You’re welcome.
